The Herculano & Elida Hernandez Foundation was created in 1996 with the mission of promoting Latino culture through arts and education. Founder Frank P. Hernandez sought to create a foundation that would honor the memory of his parents (right) and their lifelong commitment to the Latino community.

Mr. Hernandez has been a civil rights attorney in Dallas for more than 42 years. He was the first Mexican-American judge in the history of Dallas County, the founder of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and a founder of the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association..

In addition to the five-day Vistas Film festival and monthly screenings througout the year, the foundation also hosts an annual Thanksgiving Dinner Drive and Holiday Dinner Drive to provide meals for less fortunate families in Dallas.

In 2006, the foundation provided Thanksgiving dinners for 85 families and holiday dinners, a winter blanket and toys for 25 families. More than 100 volunteers (left) participated in the deliveries. More than $5,000 was raised for both programs combined. For more information, on the foundation, call 214-887-9048 or visit www.hyehernandez.org.
